Drive Train

Engine
I started with the 1500 engine since it was partially installed into the engine bay, that is to say it was sitting in the engine bay not bolted in or aligned with the transmission.  Since it appeared someone was either installing it or removing it, I figured let's start here.

I cleaned up and painted both engines.  Installed new points, condensor and coil and attempted to set the timing.  Not as easy as it sounds.  Discovered later that the timing mark is onthe lower side of the crankshaft pulley.
I was able to determine both appear to have low compression, but the 1500 has oil pressure, the 1600 none.

Transmission
March 9
I tore into the transmission to inspect, clean and repair all needed areas.
both transmissions appear to be in good condition internally, no excess wear or broken teeth could be observes. I rebuilt the shifter mechanism using combined parts. It now is firm and no slop.

Rear Suspension
I removed the differential and rear springs as an assembly and then separated each piece. I cleaned all the parts and reassembled with polyurethane bushings and spring perches.

Back to the engine
March 11

I removed the valves from the 15 cylinder head for inspection.  The seats were real rough and the valves had a lot of pitting.

I then did the same thing for the 16 cylinder head.
The valve seats and valves appear to be relatively new and hardly used.

So, it was time to tear into the 1600 engine and see what was instore for me there.

The internals were clean, except for some moisture in the form of rust and oil.  The rod bearings appear to be in good condition.  The cylinder walls also look good with no ridges.
Maybe I've gotten lucky?

It runs!!!

It moves under it's own power.
